MY NIGHT, SOME CREATURE
My night, some creature
like an enormous rat
trots across the lawn.
Albino alligators crawl from sewers
to feed upon dogs. Darkness
beneath unpruned shrubbery, spies
hiding in abandoned windmills.
Windows disappear. Renagade sirens.
Everyone receives their portion of pity.

Sleepless, I savor
the last few minutes of an imaginary
twenty four hour painkiller.
